We are pleased to announce that after several months of waiting we received a positive response to our application and have been accepted to the international network of biobanks - ESBB (European and Middle Eastern and African Society for Biopreservation and Biobanking). We hope that this will authenticate our facility on the background of Polish and European units. It also gives the possibility of jointly applying for funds to conduct international research projects. At the moment, the organization brings together 64 institutions.

In 2014, a new contract was signed between Institute for Medical Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Łódź and Department of Molecular Biophysics of University of Łódź in order to realize service “Working out delivered materials, conducting of DNA sequencing and analyse of the obtained data quality of the project “Role of the multidrug resistance transporters in pharmacokinetics and toxicology - in vitro tests in pharmaceutical and clinical practice” (No. POIG.01.01.02-10-005 / 08)”. At present, together with Professor Jarosław Dziadek team, we realize research on genetic variation of drug-resistant strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and differentiation of different types of Mycobacterium kansasii.

From the beginning of conception of biological material repository, transformed automatically into BioBank format, cooperation with Department of Anthropology was establish. Common projects have begun to appear since 2011. As a result, several papers, presentations, conference proceedings and patents were performed, so far.
BioBank Lab stores a part of current Department of Anthropology work’s collections:
Children’s collections – project funded by The City of Łódź Office and partially by TESTOPLEK project “”
Collection derived from patients with diagnosed various skin cancer and appropriate control group
Currently, we plan to create unique aDNA collection, using bone material gathered by Department of Anthropology. There are in our plans sub-collections derived from populations: neolithical, the Bronze Age, the Middle Ages and modern times.

Cooperation with Professor Wojciech Branicki team was started in 2013, when set of samples was handed over from TESTOPLEK project’s POPULOUS collection as a result of agreement between Department of Anthropology, Department of Molecular Biophysics of University of Łódź and Department of Genetics and Evolutionism of Jagiellonian University in Kraków. Samples was additional, verifying package for system of hair and eyes color prediction – HIRISPLEX. Currently, in the same team, studies about some pigmentation aspects are conducted.
